Old-school felt pennants, with their minimal illustrations and colors, have appealed to me for as long as I can remember. Their craft and simplicity carry a kind of grassroots support for every level of the game, from high school all the way up to the pros.
Spawn of the Silicon Valley Hackers
Shortly after the Broncos pennant, I shifted my focus to a vintage sports pennant for people closer to work: the Silicon Valley Hackers. Not a sports team, but it does represent the best and brightest hackers at Facebook. I’ll hand these out to the winners of our internal hackathons in 2016, and I’m also taking the campaign to the streets: a number of well-frequented sports bars near our Menlo Park headquarters have agreed to hang them among the other pennants, giving the not-so-sporty engineering folks a team they can proudly drink to.
