University Hackathon rebrand
Identity, Facebook University Hackathons, 2016
Hackathons have been a Facebook tradition since 2004 and the seed of a lot of the products people know. They took on a form of their own at the university level too, and Facebook sponsors many university hacks to keep that going around the world. Our internal committee came to me to modernize the branding.
Sub-branding came through a simple ring crest in a college serif, so any school’s name drops into the same shape and still reads as a university event.
I also made an international version of the logo, since the pennant may not carry the university meaning everywhere it travels.
And finally, a simplified hackathon component for use as a sub-brand element in global events that Facebook does not host or sponsor.
